Welcome to No.3 Gweek, Cornwall.  A three-bedroom, period cottage, nestled above the Helford river in an Area Of Natural Beauty. This 100-year-old property is greatly loved by the growing family of five that own it and is also used as a holiday rental. So, rethinking the traditional bathroom space that came with the property was a priority when looking at how it could work well for both the family that use it, along with the guests that frequent the home also.

While the copper pipe themed, Victorian style bathroom added quirkiness to the cottage, practically though, the need for a bathroom that was easier to use for a longer period of time (and  was easier to clean / maintain) for a larger family became evident.

Utilising the skills of Bathroom Consultant Josh Perez-Moseley in the Bathroom Showroom, Josh helped create a realistic look at what was possible within the space and also helped in suggesting pieces of furniture that would complement the feel that the owners were trying to capture.

“I was looking for something updated, but very natural, that wouldn’t compromise the feel of the Victorian cottage. I wanted to reflect the beaches nearby, but without it being ‘themed’ in a tacky way. Practically, I also wanted it to be accessible for all our family and able to be easily cleaned!  It’s so easy to get carried away like a kid in a sweet shop, but Josh was good a reeling me in and suggesting subtle solutions for what we needed.  The CAD drawings he created really helped envisage what I wished for” – Kulli Saran, No.3 Gweek.

During renovation.

Adding natural tiles throughout, including the floor, gave the whole space a feeling of calm and space.

The positioning of the shower, toilet, radiator and sinks were similar to where the previous water pipes ran so there was little work needed to access these areas. All this was considered during the CAD process.

 

Repositioning a cupboard door meant that we could position the shower exactly where the old bath went, utilising it to fit in a double walk-in shower.

 

The addition of a large multi use HIB Solstice mirror added more light into the room, giving the feeling of much more space. The rimless, wall hung toilet is another demonstration of how more effective cleaning can happen in a busy, multi use bathroom.

A stylish and very practical radiator doubles as a towel rail and looks divine.

To avoid clutter, the shower fittings were kept minimal. The shower – Merlyn 10 series wetroom panel- was thicker with a coating that aided the minimal look and cleaning of the area.

The Novum Eden ceramic countertop basins chosen have a chevron patterning which mimics the flooring throughout the rooms downstairs, again using wall Novum Atlas mixer taps to keep with the decluttered theme.

This wall mounted beautiful unit holds hidden drawers to conceal bathrooms items and uses the natural oak look to tie in with the floors downstairs, contributing to the ‘natural’ theme that runs throughout the property.
